Multiple roadworks and upgrades on Bass Highway

Road users are advised there will be extensive road works on the Bass Highway in the coming weeks. Road works are scheduled for multiple sites, with some already underway.

The impact of these works will vary but road users should allow at least 30 minutes extra travel time for the journey between Deloraine and Burnie and consider alternate routes such as Meander Valley Road.

The Bass Highway works are a mix of short-term maintenance and longer-term infrastructure upgrades identified under the Bass Highway – Wynyard to Marrawah and Bass Highway – Cooee to Wynyard corridor plans. The works include high priority sites, such as around Prospect, Carrick, north of Deloraine and near Sassafras and Latrobe.

These works will improve the safety and driving experience on the Bass Highway by providing a strong and long-lasting surface.

The large volume of work underway on the Bass Highway this summer is due to unseasonal wet weather throughout winter and spring, which resulted in increased maintenance requirements and delayed the start of the typical construction season.

With works starting again on the Midland Highway, road users travelling should also allow for delays of up to 30 minutes between Hobart and Launceston.

While we understand the impact of successive roadworks, it is important we make the most of the summer weather to complete these important projects.

Please slow down and follow all road signs and directions of traffic controllers.
