After a strong return to live theatre in 2021, the Playhouse Theatre will once again entertain audiences, with tickets now on sale to Hobart Repertory Theatre Society’s (Hobart Rep) lineup of shows for 2022.
The schedule includes four new shows for the coming 12 months, including an original play penned by Hobart natives, Franz Docherty & Belinda Bradley.
This line-up has it all – comedy, crime, family classics,” said Hobart Rep’s President, David Clements.
“We’re particularly pleased to be supporting local playwrights, Franz Docherty and Belinda Bradley, in bringing their original work The Last Resort to Hobart audiences.
The Adventures of Peter Rabbit and his Friends will be the first show presented by Hobart Rep in 2022, running from 20 April to 1 May. It’s a family friendly tale for the young, and the young at heart, written by Joseph Robinette based on Beatrix Potter’s much-loved classic children’s stories
“I’m absolutely delighted to be bringing this well known, and much-loved classic to the Playhouse Theatre in April next year,” said Director Shauna Lee Ward.
“Many of us grew up with the stories of Peter Rabbit and his friends. This playful and family friendly reimagining of the classic children’s stories is sure to be a hit for the whole family.”
Go Back for Murder is an Agatha Christie murder mystery that will keep audiences guessing to the very end. It will play from 10 to 25 June 2022, directed by Scott Hunt.
The 39 Steps – adapted by Patrick Barlow and based on the famous spy thriller – will be on from 12 to 27 August. This version, a parody, will be directed by up-and-coming Hobart director Jack Lark.
The Last Resort is a comedy, to be directed by Ingrid Ganley. It will be show at the Playhouse from 21 to 29 October 2022.
“After the interruptions of the past two years, we are more excited than ever to get started on another year of high-quality community theatre,” said Clements. “We can’t wait for audiences to see what this talented and visionary group of directors has in store for them.”
Heading into its 96th year, Hobart Rep remains an institution in Hobart’s theatre community, presenting a roster of high quality performances each year at the historic Playhouse Theatre.
