Lyell Highway Landslip

On Sunday, 17 October 2021 heavy rain caused a landslip next to the westbound lane of the Lyell Highway west of Ouse, between Strickland Road and the Dee River Bridge.

Investigations of the site have revealed that the damage to the road is more extensive than originally thought. The Department of State Growth is currently working with contractors on a design that will provide a permanent solution and return the road to normal operation.

Currently one lane is closed, and a reduced speed limit is in place until works are complete to keep everyone safe. We expect to finish these works by the end of the 2021, weather permitting.

We apologise for the inconvenience and ask road users to keep to speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.

Roads Updates 3

Media release – Commissioner for Transport, 26 October 2021

Upcoming speed limit changes for Bronte Park

Road users are advised of a change to the speed limit on a 1.7-kilometre section of Marlborough Road near Bronte Park.

From Friday 29 October, the current 70 km/h speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/h, making the road safer for road users and vehicles turning into facilities along this section of road.

In making the decision to lower the speed limit, consideration was given to the characteristics of the road, including the number of driveways along the section, and how it compares to road and speed limits in similar rural areas.

Research tells us that even small reductions in travelling speeds can lead to a reduction in serious casualties.

The new speed limit will come into effect once the updated speed limit signs have been installed. ‘New speed limit ahead’ signs will also be placed to provide road users with advance warning of the change.

Road users are reminded to comply with the posted speed limits and always drive to the conditions.
