Media release – TasWater, 1 July 2021

Price and Service Plan extension reminder for customers

TasWater would like to remind its customers of the one-year extension to its existing three-year Price and Service Plan (PSP3), which will ensure the continued delivery of drinking water and other essential services. The extension of PSP3 includes a 3.5 per cent price increase for the financial year beginning 1 July 2021.

TasWater Chief Financial Officer Matthew Pigden said the modest price increase will ensure vital services continue to be delivered and improved.

“This is the first price increase since 1 July 2018 with prices frozen for the last two financial years,” he said.

For most households the 3.5 per cent price increase will result in an additional cost of about $42 per year, which will allow TasWater to continue to update water and sewerage infrastructure across the state to maintain the delivery of clean and safe drinking water and help protect the environment. This involves the continuation of our $1.8 billion capital works program over 10 years leading up to 2026.

“Some of our recent key investments include the newly upgraded $5.1 million Latrobe Sewer Network, which will lead to a reduction in sewer spills during heavy rainfall events and the $2.4 million Claremont trunk water pipeline replacement works, which will ensure reliability of services to customers in Hobart.”

Prudent investments have also led to other exciting outcomes including water from Rossarden, a plant that was built under the 24glasses Regional Towns Water Supply Program, winning the Best Municipal Water in the World category in the USA earlier in June. There is always more work to do and TasWater is firmly focused on building and maintaining the infrastructure of the future as well as assisting customers wherever possible.

“This is why we have a range of support programs for customers and a dedicated team to meet their needs,” Mr Pigden said. “We will work with you to create customised, flexible solutions whether you need help for the short or long term.”
