New Labor Shadow Cabinet will hold Liberal Government to account

Labor Leader Rebecca White today released details of the new Labor Shadow Cabinet, reflecting the issues that matter most to Tasmanians and priority areas to hold the Gutwein Government to account.

Ms White said the allocation of the new Shadow Ministries also makes strong use of the depth of talent in Labor’s Parliamentary team.

“Each of the Labor Members are strong voices for their communities and each of them understand the key issues in their communities,” Ms White said.

“Together we are united in our strong resolve to hold this government to account, particularly in those key areas where they continue to fail and continue to let Tasmanians down – in health, housing and education and the failure on delivery of critical infrastructure.”

Deep divisions remain in shadow cabinet

Labor’s revolving shadow cabinet highlights the ongoing deep divisions in the party.

This is the third shadow cabinet in just three months, which has been nothing more than a power play between the factional powerbrokers within the Labor party.

All this demonstrates is that Labor are hopelessly divided.

Today there was no line up of shadow cabinet members to speak to their new shadow portfolios, instead the announcement was done quietly, late in the day.

While Labor continues to showcase its rifts and bitter divisions, the Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is getting on with the job of securing Tasmania’s future and providing the certainty and stability Tasmanians need.
