Media release – Dr Scott McKeown, Deputy Director of Public Health, 23 April 2021
Western Australia regions declared high risk
The Perth Metropolitan Region and Peel Region in Western Australia (WA) have been declared as High-Risk Areas following the confirmation of two COVID-19 cases in that state while infectious.
One case was diagnosed in Victoria today, having travelled by plane from WA on 21 April, and the other diagnosed in WA today.
Anyone currently in Tasmania who was in WA on or since 17 April should check the WA public exposure site list at the Department of Health WA website.
This includes people who travelled on QF1002 from Perth to Hobart on 21 April and QF778 from Perth to Melbourne on 21 April. These two flights departed from Perth QANTAS domestic airport T3 and T4 terminals during the specified local (WA) time of 11am to 1pm on 21 April.
Anyone who was at any of the locations listed at the specific date and time must self-isolate immediately and call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 after 8am tomorrow (Saturday 24 April) for further advice.
The WA public exposure site list may change as the WA public health response progresses and it should be checked regularly by anyone who has recently been in WA.
No public exposure sites have been identified in Victoria currently.
Anyone who wishes to travel to Tasmania who has been in the Perth Metropolitan or Peel Regions in the past 14 days will not be permitted to enter Tasmania unless approved by the Deputy State Controller.
Any person approved will be required to complete 14 days quarantine upon arrival and be tested.
Importantly, if anyone has any cold or flu symptoms, even mild, contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to arrange a test.
Further advice will be issued as WA authorities continue contact tracing. Visit www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au for the latest Tasmanian information.
