Media release – Family Planning Tasmania, 18 March 2021
New Family Planning Tasmania clinic room and brand unveiled by Health Minister today
Family Planning Tasmania (FPT) has delivered high quality sexual and reproductive health services to Tasmanians for over 45 years. This morning, The Honourable Sarah Courtney MP officially opened the new clinic room at Family Planning Tasmania’s Glenorchy clinic. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to officially open the clinic room, as was a Welcome to Country.
Cedric Manen, CEO of Family Planning Tasmania, said the new brand will help FPT speak to and connect with a new generation of Tasmanians.
“Tasmanians have the right to access quality sexual and reproductive services. At FPT, we are passionate about reaching every Tasmanian to empower them to seek the support and services they need.
“Sexuality is an integral part of life. A large part of what we do is supporting people to make an informed choice about when or if they have children, and to be empowered to express their sexuality.
“We are the go-to experts in sexual and reproductive health in Tasmania. Our service has always been high-level, professional and industry-leading, now our visual design reflects that,” said CEO of FPT, Cedric Manen.
“Our services are in consistently high-demand, so we wanted to increase our capacity to see and help more Tasmanians. This new clinic room and refurbished space will allow us to realise our mission.
“Sexual and reproductive healthcare can be an intensely personal experience. This refurbishment will allow for an increased level of comfort and privacy for our patients, both within clinic rooms and a fit-for-purpose waiting area.
“The refurbishment will also provide an additional clinic room. This will enable FPT to assist an additional 14,000 women and men over the next five years. Our brand new clinic room has been specifically designed to be accessible to patients living with a disability.
“In 2020 FPT delivered 29,590 services to 13,121 clients, and saw a 0.2% growth, despite the global pandemic.
“The new clinic room has now given us increased capacity to take the strain off the health system, and offer services like colposcopies and other vital gynaecological services. If these services are supported by Government, it will have the effect of reducing waiting times for essential services for Tasmanians, particularly Tasmanian women.
The Health Minister, The Hon. Sarah Courtney MP said Family Planning Tasmania provides an essential service to Tasmanians and is proudly supported by the Tasmanian Government.
“The refurbished clinic will go a long way in supporting Tasmanian women. Sexual and reproductive health is an essential health function, and further expansion of services is welcome. We are proud to provide funding and support the vital work of Family Planning Tasmania,” said Minister Courtney.
Cedric Manen said the new brand will help Family Planning Tasmania assist more Tasmanians.
“We have a new logo, website and digital strategy to assist us in our goal. We have reassessed how we use our resources, and believe this new strategy will help us provide services and resources to more Tasmanians than ever before.
“Our new logo is our representation of who we are, and our website is often our first point of contact for our clients and people who use the service.
“The website also boasts other helpful content, such as news and resources for Tasmanians to learn about their own sexual and reproductive health,” said Cedric.
