War of the Words
Homebrew Studio and Comedy/Audio/Theatre launched their mockumentary full length movie War of the Words in Hobart this week.
The black and white film is about a struggling poetry collective who enlist the assistance of a successful poet to help them secure a large arts grant. A film crew follows them reading venues to their homes and local halls and reveals much tension and betrayal in the group.
The movie is written and directed by Matt Dean and featuring the acting talents of Annissa Jane Short, Belle Harvey, Martin Bennett, Matt Sertori, Matt Dean and a cameo from local celeb Gordon Brown.
The film is made and based entirely in Hobart but re-tells many lived experiences from here, Melbourne, Perth and the UK by writer Matt Dean.
“All the bizarre things in this story have happened to me and others and all the characters are based on people I have dealt with,” said Dean.

The plot delves into an underbelly of arts scenes and exposes how some will assassinate the character of others when there is money involved.
After two years of producing comedy radio plays, the studio went into film making during the end of lockdown.
And if you like what you see, watch the whole movie! Director Matt Dean said the group was keen to spread the good word as much as possible.
“At this point we are more interested in promotion and are already planning for our next film,” he explained.
