POLICE DROP CHARGES FROM PARLIAMENT BLOCKADE ARRESTS
Charges have been dropped for the 7 remaining rebels who were arrested on 17 October 2019 after blockading parliament to demand urgent action on the climate and ecological crisis due to Police failing to tender any evidence.
“It’s taken a whole year to see these charges dropped and we are a year closer to runaway global heating that will be impossible to turn around.” – Jon Stanger, arrestee, father of one daughter.
“Australia is a fossil fuel pariah, one of the largest exporters of fossil fuels in the world and that directly threatens my future, my daughter’s future – I have no choice but to do what I can to change this.” – Mr. Stanger.
“Tasmania will be hit hard by the climate crisis, it will make COVID-19 seem mild. Worse though will be the impact on people who have very little, have contributed nothing to global heating and have received no wealth from fossil fuels as Australia has. We must act now and in a way that is fair and just globally.” – Mr. Stanger.
“If lutruwita/Tasmania is true its ‘clean, green’ brand, it needs to keep coal in the ground, high conservation value native forests standing & stop the decline of its species. The privatisers, rent-seekers & exploiters are on a losing ticket unless they get with the regeneration program.” – Tom Allen, arrestee, father of 2 boys, ENGO Campaign Manager.
“Join Extinction Rebellion, get active on the climate emergency now – because nobody else is coming to save us, it’s up to us to force action, https://ausrebellion.earth/” – Mr. Stanger.
Extinction Rebellion Tasmania’s next plans are to target the dirty banks on the 11th of December to demand the government regulate the finance sector to ensure they invest in our future not in extinction.
Since 2016, the big banks have loaned $35.5 billion to dirty fossil fuels, fuelling the climate crisis.

Jon Stanger.
