Congratulations to all of the happy parents, family members and friends of the 5735 babies born in Tasmania throughout 2019 (2989 boys & 2746 girls). The number of registered births is up slightly from 5570 in 2018. Four of the last six years however have had more births.
Willow and Oliver were the most popular baby names in Tasmania during 2019.
In terms of girls’ names, Willow rose from eighth place in 2018 to be chosen by 53 Tasmanian parents in 2019, edging out Charlotte (44), Ava (33) and Amelia (32). Charlotte had held top place since 2013.
Oliver remains Tasmania’s most popular boys’ name, taking out top place on the annual list compiled by the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages for the seventh year in a row. That’s a lot of Olivers.
Oliver was chosen by 62 parents in 2019, with George the nearest rival with 41 and Charlie in third with 40.
