Parliament arrangements

Will Hodgman, Premier

The Government has received confirmation from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission on the timing of the recount for the seat vacated by Rene Hidding, which confirms that the new Member for Lyons will not be in place for the sitting week scheduled to commence on March 12.

I have received advice that the most appropriate course of action is to delay the resumption of Parliament by one week until March 19, and the Governor has accepted my recommendation that this occur.

This will allow the new Member for Lyons to take their place and for the make-up of Parliament to reflect the results of last year’s election.

An updated sitting schedule will be developed in due course and there will be no reduction in the number of sitting days.

We look forward to resuming Parliament later this month with a new Liberal Member for Lyons and continuing to deliver on the majority Liberal Government’s Plan.

With Hickey crossing the floor more times than a troupe of manic Square dancers, Hodgman’s claim to “majority Liberal Government” is somewhat tenuous!
