This is outrageous!
Now we see the real intent and power of the new State-wide planning legislation: totally draconian and undemocratic!
Residents should have the right to protect and care for their local areas.
In the present case, St. Francis Xavier’s Roman Catholic Church has simply leased the building to CatholicCare Tasmania to provide eight accommodation units for older, single women for whom it is often difficult to obtain rental properties on the open market – a noble enterprise, I think most of us would agree.
It would have saved a lot of local concern if the Church had come to the community before taking this to Council.
