Tassal Storm Bay approval

January 31, 2019

The Federal Government’s failure to assess Tassal’s plans for a massive new fish farm in Storm Bay has let Tasmanian communities down, Greens Senator for Tasmania Nick McKim says.

“This is a slap in the face to communities who have made it clear that they don’t want this development to proceed,” Senator McKim said.

“The Liberals have decided to effectively privatise huge amounts of Tasmania’s coastline to big corporates without any federal assessment at all.”

“This is a 450,000 square metre development which will have huge impacts on the Derwent estuary and the marine environment of Storm Bay.”

“We need stronger laws because it is clear that the Liberals have been captured by the corporates and are no longer interested in properly regulating the industry.”
