- Health system underfunded by at least $150 million
- Liberals have not made one economic reform
- Global, national factors credited with state’s success
Tasmanians are suffering in our health system because of chronic underfunding by the Hodgman Liberal Government, according to Saul Eslake’s Tasmania Report released today.
The report reflects a strengthening Tasmanian economy which can largely be attributed to improvements in the global and national economy.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said Mr Eslake highlighted a health system underfunded by at least $150 million per year.
“Every year, Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein are making the conscious choice to spend less on hospitals and the health system,” Mr Bacon said.
“This evidence is on top of the RDME report which showed the spiralling structural underfunding of Tasmania’s health system.
“Mr Eslake asked the government to be more ambitious. Coming up to five years in office, the Government has not a single economic reform to its name.
“Mr Eslake attributed Tasmania’s economic success to external factors like the growing global and domestic economy and lower Australian dollar.”
