Anglican Diocese decision on church sales welcome

Jane Howlett, Liberal Member for Prosser

I welcome the decision of the Anglican Diocese to remove approximately 30 percent of originally identified properties from sale.

In my electorate of Prosser, the decision to remove from sale St Albans Church and Burial Ground, where some of the victims of the Port Arthur Massacre are interred, is to be commended.

I also welcome the decisions to retain churches in surrounding communities, including, St Marys Church in Triabunna, St Matthias Church in Woodsdale and the retention of three churches in the Derwent Valley and Central Highlands, particularly St Michael and All Angels in Bothwell, the “Country Cathedral”,  is also very welcome.

Obviously, not every church will be retained and I will continue to work with affected local communities to achieve the best possible outcome.

I would like to thank the Diocese, and in particular Bishop Richard Condie, for listening to the concerns of local communities.

Personally I think the Anglican Church is a disgrace to humanity. The properties that they are planning to sell, to cover their own ‘dirty’ misdeeds, were built by the public on donated land and maintained by their congregations to a large extent.

Now they think they have a right to sell these valuable properties off, firstly to pay off the people that have been abused by their own clergy, and secondly to make some ridiculous profit for their ministry. No wonder people are moving away from ‘organised religion’ in droves. Religions, in my opinion, are nothing more than ‘tax exempt’ businesses who brainwash the vulnerable. Also religion is the most common cause of wars.

Yep, it’s coming … the revelation that religion is a myth invented by man and used to exploit others for selfish purposes, and now we have Mr Shouty Face as their leader! God help me!

Nice to read at last, or hear? from JH.
