5 days unpaid domestic violence leave too little too late

ROSS HART MP MEMBER FOR BASS

One woman a week is killed as a result of domestic violence, this is what a national tragedy looks like.

Today the parliament will continue the debate of the Governments amendment of the National Employment Standards that will see 5 days of unpaid family and domestic violence leave finally provided to all employees.

Federal Member for Bass Ross Hart said “we on this side of the House, do not believe that it goes far enough”.

“Labor’s commitment is for 10 days, paid family violence leave”.

“I call on the Government to join Labor’s lead, accept that this leave should be paid and start to genuinely support any person, but notably women who are subject to this violence”.

Labor has listened to victims, frontline workers, business, unions and organisations that deal daily with domestic violence. Their clear message is that people, male or female, who have experienced domestic violence need more support in the workplace.
