NEWLY-elected Hobart City Council alderman Simon Behrakis has finally had his fairytale finish after failing to sway voters in the state and Legislative Council elections.

Ald Behrakis, who will remain in his job as a researcher/electorate officer for Senator Eric Abetz, stood for Denison in the March state election but was pipped by Speaker Sue Hickey.

He went to the polls again in the Legislative Council election against Rob Valentine in May for the Upper House seat of Hobart but fell short.

Ald Behrakis, whose family owns popular supermarket Salamanca Fresh, ran as an independent candidate but maintained his Liberal views during his council campaign.

He said Senator Abetz was one of several Liberal parliamentarians who congratulated him.

“He’s been very supportive and given me a lot of advice,” he said.

“I’m very happy to have been given the tick of approval from the people after a long year of campaigning and my focus is 100 per cent with Hobart.

“There’s definitely a lot of good that can be done at a council level.”

Ald Behrakis said his first priority would be sorting out the new city parking meters.
