The Senate has overturned an expansion of the fast track scheme for people seeking asylum, backing a disallowance motion brought by Greens Immigration spokesperson Nick McKim.
“Fast track applications are a denial of natural justice to people in desperate need,” Senator McKim said.
“The fundamental legal rights that all Australians enjoy should not be denied to people seeking asylum.”
“The fast track process should be scrapped entirely.”
“The Senate has today stood up against the Liberals’ latest attack on vulnerable people and sent a very clear message to the government that enough is enough.”
