Two high profile women with strong backgrounds in the building and construction sector have been appointed to the Macquarie Point Board, as well as one of Tasmania’s leading economists.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is focussed on increasing female representation on boards through the Tasmanian Women’s Strategy and the latest appointments demonstrate that our Plan is working.
Glenda Sorrell is the founder and Managing Director of Matrix Management Group Pty Ltd, a project management and quantity surveying firm in Tasmania.
Ms Sorrell has previously worked as a director with Rawlinsons (Aust) Pty ltd, for Farrow Laing and Partners in South Africa, and has considerable experience in major commercial, industrial and civil projects, as well as coal, diamond and gold mines.
Debra Berkhout has worked on a range of masterplans for major urban development projects and has extensive experience in urban planning, project management and stakeholder engagement.
She has worked on Sydney’s Bicentennial Darling Harbour, the Olympic Village for Sydney’s Green Games, Jacksons Landing the former CSR harbour front site at Pyrmont, and the internationally recognised Rouse Hill Town Centre.
The third new member to join the board is Saul Eslake who comes to the role with 25 years as an economist in the Australian financial markets and with a range of arts, not-for-profit and GBE board positions.
He was Chief Economist for Bank of America Merrill Lynch until 2015 and in 2016 took up a part-time position as a Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Tasmania.
Appointments to the Mac Point board are for three years.
As the Mac Point site transitions from remediation towards investment and development, the addition of these skills and the mix of backgrounds will help capitalise on the opportunities at the site.
At just over nine hectares, Mac Point adjoins the Hobart waterfront and sits adjacent to the Regatta Grounds, the Cenotaph and the Queens Domain. It is a redevelopment which will deliver an extraordinary precinct for Tasmanians and all Australians.
