Menopause The Musical – Women on Fire is sponsored by Happy Hormones and indeed by the end of the night your hormones will be guaranteed happy.
The story is from the original book and lyrics by Jeanie Linders and takes place in a department store when four women discover that the manifest signs of ageing and menopause, wrinkles, forgetfulness and hot flashes can find comfort in chocolate and camaraderie.
The women’s angst is made a palatable parody as they let off a little heat, singing and dancing along to 60’s, 70s and 80s hit songs.
I recently spoke to one of the stars, Alli Pope, who plays ‘the Dubbo housewife’ and is also director of the production. Alli says the show is a celebration of the sisterhood and makes, what is often a serious and difficult time, a chance to have a laugh and good time at its expense.
An additional bonus of the production is that men, if they accompany their partners, gain some sympathetic conditioning and understanding of ‘women’s business’.
Alli is joined in the show by an ensemble of ladies with ‘fabulous acting skills’. Lillias Davie as’ the soap star’, Meg Kiddle as the ‘earth mother’ and Melanie Evans as’ the professional woman’.
Alli says the production has been adapted a little for the Australian audiences.
