• Sad day for Tasmanian media landscape
• Labor’s thoughts with staff who have remained professional despite uncertainty
• Terrible hit to local media content and diversity
Labor Leader Rebecca White said this evening’s final WIN News bulletin produced in the state was a sad time for the Tasmanian media landscape.
“As Tasmanians tune in for the final time to watch a locally produced WIN bulletin, it will be a sombre occasion,” Ms White said.
“Labor’s thoughts and respects are with reporters, camera operators, producers and other staff who have professionally delivered the news to Tasmanians right up until this evening, despite uncertainty over their jobs.
“This is a decision that will have a profound negative effect on local media content and media diversity.
“Media diversity and competition is critical to viewers and to democracy.
“On behalf of Tasmanian Labor, we mark tonight’s bulletin with sadness and send our best wishes to all WIN staff.”
