‘Patients spent up to six days waiting in Royal Hobart Hospital ED for psych bed, stats show’

He says: “Meanwhile just look at the utter waste of the former Royal Derwent Hospital site (what is left of it that the vandals haven’t burnt down); could easily be renovated for a much needed Mental Health Ward and a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit. Shame on all successive Tasmanian Government’s; could also be used to house the homeless etc etc.

Mind you, conveniently the majority of staff (personnel records) have been destroyed by a private contractor the Tasmanian Government paid to look after them. My question is why did they do this? and why were such records not sent to the State Archives Office (as per the State Archives Act 1983?).

Such a sad waste … yet look at all the millions wasted on a handful of youth at Ashley Youth Detention Centre. New Norfolk is much closer to the main Risdon Prison, the Royal Hobart Hospital and the Courts etc etc. It needs a full open Parliamentary Inquiry for dormer staff and patients.

The RDH Pool and RDH Cinema complex remain empty … absolute waste & disgrace. We used to go swimming in the pool with the patients who were safe and well enough as part of their Occupational Therapy (OT).

And those who also behaved well (didn’t bash any fellow staff and our patients) were also rewarded by going to our own CINEMA. You know when patients were well enough to be discharged. They actually left RDH with cash; not these days. It cost’s over $30,000 to go into a Private Mental Health Hospital (noting that is the cheapest one!). When will our Politicians learn? ”

I would love to know the following:

1. Cost of RDH to run in its last ten (10) years

2. Cost of public and private mental health services the last ten years!

I bet RDH wouldn’t even cost a quarter of what they are really wasting on ad-hoc service’s both public and private.

You simply cannot shove mental health patients in a white mainstream hospital based ward and expect them to get well in anyway. I saw enough when my brother went into the RHH Mental Ward and I told the Psychiatrist there (in-charge) how much a disgrace it was compared to the patient care & safety provided at the RDH.

She did not know what to say. There was no OT (Occupational Therapy so no art, no outings, no cognitive therapy even happening). Sadly then most people pretend they are well to get out of the place … then end up committing suicide.

You cannot ‘outsource’ our fellow Human Beings who are suffering from Mental Health Issues.

Mental health patient wait times in Tasmania’s emergency departments are the worst in 20 years, a senior representative of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry says.

New figures released by the Tasmanian Government show in the financial year to March, mental health patients at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) waited as long as six days in the emergency department (ED) before being admitted to the mental health ward or discharged.

The maximum emergency department wait time for mental health patients at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) was almost four days, 1.57 days at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) and 1.3 days at the North-West Regional Hospital (NWRH).

Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Milford McArthur said long wait times were far too common at the Royal.

“Psychiatrists are reporting to the college … up to 10 [mental health] patients there in the emergency departments waiting between one to four days would be the most common.”

Median wait times were lower for the same period; nearly five hours at the LGH, 4.4 hours at the RHH, two hours at MCH and nearly three hours at NWRH.

A recent inquiry into the state’s health system heard a man took his own life in the ED waiting room of the Royal Hobart Hospital …

But #10 … Thankfully soon to come to an end with a Labor Government in Canberra willing .. desperate .. to cure all health ‘ills’!

Spending on the whole range of medical issues, with mental health a priority, will increase substantially under a Shorten Labor Government. Bill has said so.

Bill is an honourable man, even though he has a very low public approval rating.

#7 and #9 … Thanks Donzel and Spikey for alerting and educating me. Mental Health is serious stuff. Can we now return to topic, please?

“SIX (torturous) days and nights in Accident and Emergency” waiting ‘on edge’ and in psycho limbo for a professional assessment and evaluation; then to formulate a treatment plan of action and locate an appropriate psychiatric bed, followed by formal admission and clinical ‘treatment’ …

This is Third World Psychiatry and mental health (mal)treatment of the worst and incompetent kind.

April – May 2018. Hon Senator Wilkie has publicly called for all stakeholders to attend his yet to be convened – “Mental Health Emergency Crisis Summit.” Come on, all you Ministers and experts, do something tangible or meaningful, or go find another cushy job.

We must not forget the Secondary Victims either – our stressed to the max, front-line doctors and nurses, carers, families and mental health advocates …

Who cares for the carers? No-one in TasMANIA will.

Once you get sick they will fight you then dump you, like disposable trash, and Minister Ferguson wonders where have all our abused and ‘burnt-out,’ demoralised and depressed nurses gone.

#8 … In your defence, I must agree.

Clearly children of love have no place amongst such disgusting and disgraceful examples of inhumanity.

Trolls, on the other hand …

#6 … I believe most readers of TT know and understand that #5 is a love child of the Liberal party, and that he has great difficulty in restraining himself from taking every opportunity to defend his liberal idols and to mock and denounce all others, regardless of their political persuasions.

As evidenced by #5’s comments above, his often patronising, facetious, immature, inane and insensitive comments are par for the course, and are of little (if any) value to the community, let alone those afflicted by mental health issues.

WHO exactly are you, TGC? Who motivates you? Are you a professional distractor and theme wrecker? How do you know such people/things? Have you ever been a psychiatric patient in the public system? What is your profession? What are your achievements in advancing TasMANIA? Why are you afraid to identify and expose yourself?

It was (your) LABOR’S former Attorney General and Minister for NO Justice, Peter Patmore, who used, abused and betrayed MY witness and evidence in the TasMANIA parliament, without my knowledge and consent .. and BINGO! Now I’m a despised and loathed Whistleblower who must be taught and made to suffer the cruel and malicious Van Diemen lesson.

The LIB/LAB Tasmanian health and legal system made me sick and kept me sick for a PTSD decade. When I ethically refused to conform and submit to a higher state sanctioned power I was set-upon and driven from Tasmania in grave fear of my disobedient nursing life. This is ALL on the public record, Trevor.

Please read my book, Trevor. “One Flew Over the Kookaburra’s Nest.” Non-fiction 2016-17

Premier Hodgman and Minister Ferguson have personal copies.

I don’t know if Lovell and Shorten have read it yet, but Honourable Labor Member for Batman, Ged Kearney (Whistleblower, social justice advocate) launched it at The Cascade Hotel in South Hobart in August, 2016. ABC Breakfast Radio, Ryk Goddard, interviewed me the following morning.

Were you at my book launch Trevor .. lurking in the murky shadows? Tasmanians are expert at that!

Look – it’s a matter of ‘sticking it out’ for a few more months – difficult as that will be – but Sarah’s lot are about to take over federally, and money will then pour into all health categories – especially mental health and emergency.

Sarah has promised this via her criticisms of the present situation. The only reason these improvements won’t be made immediately Labor gets in is that there’s no additional funding available – but Sarah and Bill say that’s not the case. Just poor management and Labor will fix that.

What a disgraceful state of affairs!

In the meantime the Tasmanian Government is pumping heaps of money into ‘feel-good’ television counselling advertising for the problems they are causing and supporting .. for example a broken health system, gambling, alcohol abuse.

The ADVOCATE, July 10. Sarah Lovell, Opposition Health Spokeswoman states: “The latest figures were ‘quite fairly shocking,’ the health system is in absolute crisis. It is long past the time the Minister (Ferguson) acknowledged the crisis HE created.”

Dead wrong Ms Lovell. You are obviously not reliably informed, or across your health portfolio either. Do some Health Department research.

HE did not “create” your historical crisis. Ferguson inherited three decades of Liberal and Labor nepotism and cronyism, avoidance and denial, incompetence and neglect where NO forward thinking and long-term strategic planning was ever considered for the needs, welfare, treatment and human rights of those Tasmanians suffering from or affected by mental illness.

1993 – 2008. Liberal Health Ministers Peter McKay and Roger Groom, then Labor Health Ministers, Judith Jackson and David Llewellyn, and EVERY Health Minister since, have abysmally failed in their sworn duty to provide a safe and functional, accountable and professional Mental Health Service.

They should ALL be ashamed and publicly shamed that this avoidable psychiatric rabble has progressed to a broken, demoralised, dysfunctional and nepotistic culture of their own inept and corrupt doing. In TasMANIA … you must hear, see, and speak no evil – or grief and peril awaits.

Poor oppressed front-line Doctors and Nurses .. exactly what caused my PTSD and Depression, then Whistleblower and Victim of Crime Syndrome. Denied Natural Justice and never to nurse again.

“Trauma is the most profound form of stress.” – Dr Paul Brown

1994 – 2018. ONLY three TAS politicians have ever given me HELP! Hon Pegg Putt and Diane Holister, GREENS’ Hon Sue Napier (dec) Liberal. That’s it!

Maybe it would be more beneficial to name and shame ALL those dilettante dishonourables who have CREATED this crisis of humanity by doing nothing for 30 inept years. There’s a solution, for free. To be continued …

MEDIA RELEASE: Hon Senator Wilkie. April 13, 2018. Mr Wilkie will call on the State government to call an emergency summit to find ways to immediately address the Mental Health crisis in Tasmania.

”We need immediate action. Mental Health is everybody’s business and we need to get everyone around the table at an emergency summit to sort this crisis out” …

“Nor is it in the patients’ best interest that the first and protracted response to their mental health episode are the police.”

As I’ve previously stated Mr Wilkie, I would like to contribute some solutions to this crisis summit. Where and when? Who’s going? Who’s not? Who’s in charge? Are ethical Whistleblowers welcome .. or does more grief and peril await?

The last TasMANIA Mental Health Royal Commission was in 1906.

Come on Mr Wilkie, do it; this shocking and sad culture must end … I will back you to the PTSD and Whistleblower hilt. Many true stories are yet to be told. The public has a Right to Know.

There are NO public mental health advocates in Tasmania. They are all too afraid to speak their minds for fear of State Sanctioned reprisals and life changing consequences.

Attention! Be told and be warned (again) the acute Tasmanian Mentally ill, their carers and families.

Get to mainland Australia on the double. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s decades more advanced and caring than archaic, dysfunctional, neglectful, incompetent, brutal and unaccountable TasMANIA psychiatric services which are riddled with cronyism, nepotism and closed doors secrecy.

Worse still, any ethical nurse or public servant who complains, speaks out or (duty bound) alerts our highly paid managers and superiors, will be targeted and set upon .. and your career, welfare, safety and future is consciously, deliberately and systemically attacked and dismantled, piece by piece, until you submit, perish, or die!

And oblivious Minister Ferguson wonders why TasMANIA cannot attract and retain ‘specialist’ psychiatric nurses and psychiatrists in “the worst public health system in Australia.” AMA 2017.

I blew the Tasmanian Psychiatric Whistle in 1995.

May 1996. The EXAMINER. The Australian Nursing Federation publicly called for a Judicial Inquiry into Spencer Psychiatric Clinic and Burnie Hospital. WE were discredited and shot down in flames by a corrupted and incestuous management.

Thirty years later, the only thing that has changed .. is the name on the (closed) door.

To be continued. Where are all the other worried Tasmanians? Don’t you THINK this is critical?
