A Rohingya refugee has died on Manus Island, raising the death toll in Australian offshore detention facilities to 10.
The man, whose identity has not been released, had developed severe physical and mental health problems in his five years of detention, and died after reportedly jumping from a moving vehicle. Iranian Kurdish journalist Behrouz Boochani, who has been detained on Manus since 2013, said that two years ago the then-department of immigration “sent him to Australia to receive medical treatment but after a while they exiled him back to Manus again without any proper medication provided …”
