Any construction on Mt Welllington/kunanyi is at risk of extreme bushfire.
A cable car could be destroyed by a mountain fire as heat would comprise the structural integrity of the towers and especially the cable.
The cable would need replacing after any large fire.
And, are we expecting the Westpac rescue helicopter to retrieve groups of people in the event of equipment or power failure.
The cable car should not go ahead.
I wish to point out the blazzing obvious, building a cable car in a bushfire zone is illogical.
Heat versus metal could see the need to replace all components of a cable car following a hot bushfire on Mt. Wellington/kunanyi.
A bushfire could damage a cable car making the entire project a financial risk.
I’d be interested in the opinion of the Tasmania Fire Service.
Sincerely,
Adam Crawford
