Several alleged sexual assault victims have told a Melbourne court of the circumstances under which they claim Cardinal George Pell abused them.
A Melbourne Magistrates’ Court hearing yesterday, which will determine whether Pell will face trial, heard that one complainant told a Melbourne law firm in 2016 that Pell had “abused” him while swimming in a pool in country Victoria. Another alleged Pell assaulted him during a 1978 screening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind in Ballarat. A cinema worker did not recall seeing Pell at the alleged time, while a mother who frequented the pool told the court she never saw Pell doing anything “untoward” …
