TASSIE MARDI GRAS MARCHERS PAY TRIBUTE WITH BLACK ARM BANDS
Tasmanian LGBTI equal rights advocate, Rodney Croome, has praised former Liberal Attorney-General, the late Dr Vanessa Goodwin.
“Vanessa was one of Tasmania’s finest law-makers.”
“She was intelligent, respectful, inclusive, principled and always keen to build bridges rather than walls.”
“One of Vanessa’s many epitaphs is Tasmania’s law expunging gay and transgender criminal records, which is the best in the country.”
“I will miss her sharp mind, shy smile and our debates about principles and policies.”
Members of the Tasmanian contingent in last night’s Mardi Gras wore black arm bands in remembrance of Dr Goodwin.
“In our contingent there were people who voted Liberal, Labor and Green but every single one of us wore an arm band”, Mr Croome said.
“That in itself is a tribute to how widely Vanessa was respected.”
