TODAY MARKS THE TASMANIAN LAUNCH OF THE NATIONAL OUR TURN TO CARE CAMPAIGN AT 11:30AM AT THE TAILRACE CENTRE IN LAUNCESTON.
The Our Turn To Care campaign brings together aged care workers, providers, residents and families seeking to improve aged care funding to ensure that older Australians have quality care and a dignified life.
Older Australians and their families, together with aged care providers and workers, are well aware that our nation’s growing population requires an adequately funded, sustainable and regulated aged care system.
However, the $1.2 billion cut to the Aged Care Funding Instrument in the 2016 Federal Budget – following a $472 million reduction in funding made in 2015 – compromises the ability of the sector to provide quality care and meet future demand for care places.
Since the Government’s cuts to aged care funding, service providers have been struggling and standards could slip. The Government has let down older Australians who have cared for others their entire lives.
We believe the centre point of quality care rests upon the existence of a quality staffing cohort. Workers who are well-trained and properly regulated will provide high levels of care.
Our vision is for an aged care sector that delivers quality care and quality jobs and can meet our community’s growing future aged care needs.
We call on all our politicians to commit to provide quality care and a dignified life for all older Australians by delivering increased and sustainable funding.
