The Queen’s Baton Relay will arrive in Glenorchy on Friday 9 February. The Baton will travel through Glenorchy from about 1.30 pm–3 pm, going past Glenorchy City Council at about 1.45 pm when there will be a changeover of batonbearers. Glenorchy City Council Mayor Kristie Johnston will open a community celebration on the front lawns of the Council Chambers starting at midday.
Mayor Johnston said Glenorchy residents, business owners, school children and community groups are encouraged to come and be part of the Queen’s Baton Relay and support the Batonbearers.

“Join us for a special celebration on the front lawns of the Glenorchy City Council with entertainment, a free sausage sizzle, games and activities. The Dancing Divas will be performing, along with the YMCA doing activities.

“The Glenorchy community is coming together to celebrate the passage of the Gold Coast 2018 Queen’s Baton Relay. The Relay is bringing the excitement of the Gold Coast Games right to our doorstep, which is a very special moment for our community.

The GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay is the longest in history, travelling a record 388 days and 230,000km around the world.

In Australia, the Queen’s Baton is traversing 40,000km, travelling through every state and territory for 100 days.

The Gold Coast Games will be held between 4 – 15 April. They will be the biggest event to be staged in Australia in a decade.
