 Misconduct in the state service cannot be tolerated at any level
 Majority Labor Government would amend State Service Act
A majority Labor Government will adopt the important recommendations of the Integrity Commission’s report Guide to Managing Misconduct in the Tasmanian Public Sector released today.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said after a string of scandals and a damning report into nepotism and integrity in the public service, the Tasmanian public’s faith needed to be restored.
Ms White said a Labor Government would legislate and amend the State Service Act to allow Tasmanian State Service agencies to make disciplinary findings once an employee has left the public service, in line with the report’s recommendation.
“The overwhelming majority of the thousands of Tasmanians who work in the public sector act with the utmost integrity and, I’m sure, are just as horrified and shocked at the allegations that have emerged over the recent months,” Ms White said.
“The concerns of those public servants and all Tasmanians have to be addressed just as integrity and misconduct in the public service must be addressed.
“That’s why Labor will adopt the Integrity Commission’s recommendations which have been made after an exhaustive investigation.
“The scandals engulfing the public service under the Hodgman Liberal Government show why these recommendations are critical.
“We’ve seen high profile examples recently where individuals have resigned from the public service prior to a proper investigation into allegations of misconduct.”
