• Cancellation of Excellence Awards indicates morale is low at TasTAFE
• Staff deserve to see the first part of the Government’s audit
• Labor is very confident about TasTAFE’s future under better leadership from government

The Government must immediately move to restore morale at TasTAFE after it was revealed the organisation’s Student Excellence Awards were cancelled.

Shadow Minister for Youth, Skills and Training Josh Willie said the cancellation of the awards night was extremely disappointing for both staff and students.

“TasTAFE is clearly doing it tough,” Mr Willie said.

“The Government needs to move immediately to restore confidence by releasing the audit report so TasTAFE can start with a clean slate.

“The Government’s secrecy is doing the staff and students at TasTAFE no favours at all.

“It’s been a tough couple of years for TasTAFE but the organisation has an enormous amount to be both proud and optimistic about.

“Labor wants to see TasTAFE reach its full potential and nights like the Student Excellence Awards are a critical part of celebrating the organisation’s achievements.

“To have a situation where the awards are called off because of a lack of interest is extremely disappointing.

“Labor is passionate about making TasTAFE the best it possibly can be and we look forward to the opportunity to work with staff to restore confidence inside the organisation.”
