• How much did the Government spend on studies into “super councils”?
• Disappointing four years for the Local Government Minister

Local Government Minister Peter Gutwein needs to explain how much has been spent on his failed push to make “super councils” in Southern Tasmania.

Shadow Minister for Local Government Madeleine Ogilvie said Mr Gutwein’s term as Minister has been a mess.

“The Minister has wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on studies that haven’t gone anywhere,” Ms Ogilvie said.

“Peter Gutwein needs to reveal how much his investigation into “super councils” has cost the state.

“He sidelined Glenorchy City Council and Huon Valley Council from merger talks and now they’ve fallen over.

“The Minister is going to get to the end of four years having achieved virtually nothing in terms of local government reform.

“Unfortunately, despite the brilliant work being done by councils across the state, local government has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.”
