Liberal member for Bennelong, John Alexander, has become the latest parliamentarian embroiled in the citizenship crisis.

Fairfax reports Alexander was checking his citizenship status with the United Kingdom Home Office, and has never renounced the rights of British citizenship inherited from his British-born father. If proven, Alexander’s ineligibility to sit in the lower house could prove fatal to the Turnbull government; he holds Bennelong with a margin of 9.72 per cent, substantially less than the margin achieved at the last election by former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce in his seat of New England.
