Australian Conservatives senator Cory Bernardi has revealed divisions in the government after moving a motion opposing Medicare funding for abortions.

Five Coalition backbenchers – Eric Abetz, Barry O’Sullivan, Zed Seselja, Matt Canavan and Anne Ruston – crossed the floor to vote for the Bernardi motion, which was also supported by One Nation. Bernardi moved a series of provocative and divisive motions that prompted a number of Coalition senators to cross the floor.
