Congratulations to arts charity leader, theatre director and writer, Scott Rankin, our 2018 Tasmanian Australian of the Year.

Scott co-founded Big hART, a charity that uses the arts to shed light on hidden injustice to bring about change. It works in over 50 communities in regional, remote and urban Australia, producing stories about domestic violence, addiction, homelessness and intergenerational injustice.

A muliti-award winning writer and director in his own right, Big hART is an outstanding example of one person’s selfless contribution to the arts and society.

Each year Australia celebrates the people who inspire through their achievements.

We also congratulate our category winners:

• Tasmanian Senior Australian of the Year, organic farmer Tony Scherer;

• Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year, dental surgeon Dr Jessica Manuela; and

• Tasmania’s Local Hero, breast cancer fundraiser, Judi Adams.

Congratulations to all finalists whose remarkable contributions make our State an even greater place to live.

Our winners will represent Tasmania at the 2018 Australian of the Year Awards to be announced on the eve of Australia Day.
