Glenorchy City Council (GCC) Commissioner Sue Smith would like to announce the new general manager as Tony McMullen.
“Tony has over twenty three years’ experience in local government, including twenty years with this Council and has been acting as the General Manager for the last seven months,” Smith said.
“Tony is well qualified, holding a Bachelor of Economics, Master of Town Planning, Graduate Certificate of Management and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
“He brings a wealth of experience to the role and will bring stability to staff who have lived through upheaval for over two years now. He is a man of integrity and will work towards the best interests of the Council and community in moving forward.
“We made the announcement to staff last night and will hope this news bring a sense of ease to all who are doing a great job here. I don’t feel the staff members need any more surprises with their breakfast so it was important to inform them as soon as we could.
GCC’s former General Manager Peter Brooks left on 14 November 2017.
Commissioner Sue Smith said there is a requirement to table documents and any other information before such announcements could be made.
“Council met on Monday 28 November so my first opportunity to inform staff happened later that day,” Smith said.
“It is now time to move on and move forward with good leadership, particularly as Council will be welcoming new aldermen in January 2018. This decision to appoint Mr McMullen will give the Council security, guidance and an excellent working relationship in moving forward.
“I can speak on behalf of all the staff to say that this is a light at the end of the tunnel and Mr McMullen already has a superb working relationship with senior managers and a great deal of respect from Council staff members.
“I do hope that we will see Glenorchy City Council make the front page of newspapers in future with positive stories in going forward.
