A standout selection of Australia’s best squash players will be on show this weekend,
battling it out in the RACT Insurance City of Clarence Squash Championships.
Now celebrating its 15th year at the Eastside Squash Centre, Tasmania’s premier squash
tournament has again attracted top talent from around the nation.
Among the challengers for the title will be; former Australian third ranked and world 49th
ranked player Matthew Karwalski from NSW, current Australian fifth and world 98th ranked
Rhys Dowling from Queensland and former Tasmanian Darcy Evans, now hailing from NSW,
who is currently ranked tenth in the nation.
Young guns, Australian Junior number one Lachlan Coxsedge from QLD, and Tasmania’s best
chance Jack Hudson, who recently reached the quarter finals at the Australian Junior
Championships, are expected to push the favourites all the way.
RACT Insurance CEO Trent Sayers said the tournament has gone from strength-to-strength
in the last few years, and not only was it a great chance to witness high quality squash, but
also a fun and enjoyable family friendly event.
“To be able to have Australian top ten players on show is great for squash in Tasmania,” said
Mr Sayers.
“The tournament has the highest level of junior participation in the state, and it’s a great
opportunity for kids to see what it takes to get to the top of their game.
“RACT Insurance is proud to be involved in an event that brings both the top echelon of the
sport and juniors together and we hope it inspires the future generation to continue playing
the sport they love.
“You never know, we might have the next Tasmanian world champion competing here this
weekend.”
