Clark Cooley President of the Tasmania University Union welcomed todays announcement of the appointment of Professor Rufus Black to the position of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Tasmania.

Mr. Cooley said “Professor Black brings a wealth of experience in both the academic and commercial spaces. His experiences within working as Master of the University of Melbourne’s Ormond College will bring new ideas to working towards the universities goal of increasing educational attainment across Tasmania”

Mr. Cooley continued “Students will welcome Professor’s Black approach to a consultative and engaging approach to decision making. This will become especially vital as the university continues its transformation projects both in the physical space in Launceston, Burnie and Hobart CBD but in the academic space in the continued growth of the University College and associate degree programs”

Mr. Cooley concluded “We look forward to working with the new Vice-Chancellor on the challenges the university faces and how the student body can work together with the university”

The Tasmania University Union (TUU) was founded in 1899 as the representative body for all students of the University of Tasmania. The TUU seeks to advance the rights and protect the interests of students by ensuring the their voices are heard by parliamentarians, policy makers, university leadership and the wider community.
