Scientists and politicians have reacted with bafflement after former prime minister Tony Abbott suggested climate change may benefit humanity.
In a speech to the Global Warming Policy Foundation, a UK climate sceptic think-tank with murky funding sources and a history of publishing misleading information about climate change, Abbott said rising temperatures may prove beneficial because “far more people die in cold snaps than in heatwaves”. Comparing environmentalism to “primitive people once killing goats to appease the volcano gods”, Abbott said governments were “sacrificing our industries and our living standards to the climate gods” …
