The Tasmanian Special Timbers Alliance welcomes today’s release of the Special Species Timber Management Plan.
Andrew Denman of TSTA said;
“The new special timbers management plan is a critical first step in securing the future of the special timbers sector. For the first time, we have a clear picture on standing volumes of special timbers in areas where harvesting is permissible. This knowledge has allowed sustainable harvest levels to be set which will ensure a sustainable supply of Tasmania’s iconic special timbers for current and future generations.”
“The next important step is for Government to streamline land tenure access provisions for sustainable special timber harvesting. Simplification of special timbers harvesting application and approval processes will ensure that the Special Species Timbers Management plan can be implemented effectively and at lowest possible cost to the sector.”
“TSTA acknowledges the strong Government support in facilitating the development of the plan. Additionally, TSTA acknowledges and welcomes the bi-partisan support for the Special Species Timber Management Plan plan from Labor.”
