The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) has welcomed the news that a new vessel will service King Island from early 2018.
TFGA President Wayne Johnston said that vessel was an important first step in resolving the freight issues that have plagued the island for some time.
“This is great news for our members and the King Island community. The increased deck space and container capacity, as well as the triangular route between Victoria and the Tasmanian mainland will help ensure the ongoing sustainability of agriculture on the island,’’ he said.
“The TFGA and its members will continue to work closely with the Government to establish a long-term outcome for this vital shipping route.”
Mr Johnston will be on King Island this weekend for the annual Beef Day.
“I am looking forward to discussing this issue further with members and the broader King Island community.”
