The 13th Australian Music Prize (AMP) judging has begun to discover, reward and promote new Australian music of excellence released in the 2017 calendar year, as new Longlist Partner Mountain Goat Beer presents the first ever Longlist Live pop-up gig with Hobart-based band EWAH & The Vision of Paradise at Melbourne’s Commercial Club Hotel on Wednesday 11 October.
This pop-up gig is the first of many to be held in October, November and December – each event recognising an Australian artist for their critically acclaimed 2017 album. The final event in December will announce, for the first time, the complete list of albums that have been Longlisted by the panel of judges.

The tough-noir-rock-meets-shimmering-new-wave sound of Hobart’s EWAH & The Vision of Paradise shifts between light and dark. Their debut album ‘Everything Fades to Blue’ was released in February 2017 and is attracting attention both here and overseas, including Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service on BBC Radio 6 (UK), Henry Rollins on KCRW radio (USA) – with the single ‘Walk the Night’ picking up regular play on Double J. In April 2017, ‘Everything Fades to Blue’ made The Guardian’s top ten listing of Australia’s best underground releases.
EWAH said, “I’m really proud of the band and album. We are a bit bowled over that we’ve made the Longlist of the AMP. It’s pretty lovely to have this recognition. The album was a long time in the making and I hope that care is reflected in the music and that it is has longevity for listeners.”
Led by Chairperson Dave Faulkner, the 2017 judging panel is made up of an expert team of 18 established musicians/producer, retailers and media including:

New judge, producer Charles Fisher said, “This year is my first time on the AMP judging panel. I am pleased to have been invited and look forward to hearing great new Australian music.”
All Australian artist albums released between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017 that are at least nine tracks long or a minimum of 33 minutes/20 seconds of music will automatically be considered for The 13th AMP.
