The reason the Council has risen is because it ran out of private members’ business.
I note that the cheap attempt by the Shadow Treasurer to make mileage out of this, but note that the three Labor members are all classed as “private members” but have failed to put forward any business for debate.
It should also be noted that we brought forward the starting time on Tuesdays from the original start time of 2.30pm to 11am, at the request of Members, so they could have more time on Tuesdays for private members’ business.
The Council will resume tomorrow on Government business as usual with the expungement of historical offences bill, followed by the Mount Wellington Cable Car debate.
