The United States has agreed to take 54 refugees from Nauru and Manus Island, though details of the transfer are still unclear.

A group of 25 refugees from Sudan, Somalia, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Pakistan was among the first to be told of their successful application and that they could fly to the United States as early as next week. The fate of the other 1600 refugees in offshore detention who desire resettlement in the US is still unknown, with several hundred still awaiting an interview with US immigration officials. Immigration minister Peter Dutton refused to comment on the time frame, saying the resettlement process “would not be rushed”.
