Today the Launceston community is gathering together to show support for marriage equality at the Equality Walk. People will meet at Prince’s Square between 10.45am and 11am, courtesy of Junction Festival, and then walk to City Park.

Event organiser and local teacher Alison Jales said, “It’s time to show LGBTIQ + community that they are equal, worthy and loved”

“We want to remind everyone to vote and to show our support for the LGBTIQ + community and this is what our walk is doing today”

“This peaceful event has brought people together from all walks of life and everyone every one is welcome”

“We are very disappointed that the High Court challenge this week was not successful and we’re already seeing the damaging and untruthful messages being spread by the ‘no’ campaign. As well as reminding everyone to vote, our event today is about taking a moment to check in as a community and show solidarity and look out for each other” she concluded.
