Churches, charities, unions, community groups and activists have vowed to resist the government’s crackdown on refugees and asylum seekers in the country for medical treatment.
A group of 100 refugees and asylum seekers will be issued with “final departure bridging E visas” this week, giving them three weeks to leave government-supplied housing ahead of being deported back to Nauru, Manus Island or their country of origin.
Reacting to the news yesterday, GetUp!, the Australian Council of Trade Unions, the Salvation Army and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre planned to campaign, raise funds and organise to keep the 100 refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.
