• Labor backs Huon Aquaculture’s call for a science symposium
• We need to make sure we have a strongly regulated, sustainable industry
Shadow Minister for Primary Industries Shane Broad has welcomed Huon Aquaculture’s call for a science symposium before the end of the year.
“Labor welcomes the constructive suggestions from salmon farmers to improve the community’s confidence in the industry,” Dr Broad said.
“A symposium would be a great chance to have a robust look at current practices in Tasmania and what needs to happen to guarantee a sustainable industry long into the future.
“IMAS would be the obvious choice to facilitate and host the symposium.
“Huon Aquaculture has also recommended a series of other measures to improve regulation which Labor will consider very closely.
“Labor supports a strongly regulated, sustainable salmon industry.”
