In Parliament today I pressed the Prime Minister for immediate assistance for the 50 workers who will soon be sacked from Cadbury’s Claremont factory.
It was disappointing that the Prime Minister did not offer any immediate assistance to these people, and instead only referred in broad terms to government programs which will do little to help them right now.
Let’s not forget the history of this. The Federal Government committed $16m in the lead up to the 2013 election which ended up nothing more than a political slush fund. The fact that Cadbury withdrew their application for a new visitor centre is irrelevant because the money was just as much about economic stimulus for the Glenorchy area.
