Published performance poet and mental health advocate Stephen Johnstone will host his second suicide prevention event this week.
Following the success of the inaugural event in February, Mr Johnstone, who performs under the name Poet Musing, was encouraged to again bring people together to raise awareness around suicide prevention.
Federal Member for Bass Ross Hart MP will officially open the free event, which will feature poetry and musical performances from local artists, including open mic poetry.
Resources and support from Beyond Blue will also be available to attendees.
Mr Hart said that events such as these are vital to raising awareness around suicide prevention and supporting those in the community who might be dealing with mental health issues.
“Mr Johnstone should be commended for taking the initiative in addressing the stigma associated with mental health and reaching out to people who might be at risk”, Mr Hart said.
The event will be held on Sunday 6th August at the Greenwood Bar from 2pm – 5pm.
