The Greens are in a state of crisis following what is described as the gross mishandling of an alleged sexual assault of an ACT campaign volunteer. An internal report includes the matter among several “critical incidents” during the 2016 territory election, and leaked documents and interviews with former Greens members reveal serious concerns over the culture and conduct of the party. In particular, issues were raised with using inexperienced volunteers within vague or non-existent professional frameworks.
“We have been utterly scapegoated by the majority of members too willing to favour peace over justice, protect the Greens brand at any cost, and shoot the messanger when trouble comes around,” ex-member Ed Stickels tells Martin McKenzie-Murray.
