It would be very difficult to find someone as delightful as Tania Kernaghan. I was lucky enough to chat to this lovely lady recently. Tania speaks well of Tassie and one of its main attractions, its noticeable fresh air. Tania tells me she gets down to Tassie a couple of times a year for caravan expos but admits any excuse would do! An added incentive for visiting is the fact Tania’s friend Jacinta lives here.
Even though she is acknowledged country music royalty Tania is anything but a princess in attitude. Turning down an opportunity to be involved in the staff writing process in the US, Tania says even though she has sung at the Grand Ole Opry she has no desire to locate to the US. Instead Tania wants to see more of Australia and go places she hasn’t been before, Strahan being one she singles out! True to form Tania’s willing to tour with just herself and her acoustic guitar dismissing all the ‘bells and whistles’.
Tania is a strong believer in having an authentic voice and being true to yourself. The kind of truth and genuine nature that comes from strong family values. These attitudes were developed in Tania when she was a child and her gran, from Albury demonstrated special care for the children, leaving a light in the window for them and warming their blankets with an iron before they returned home. The second single from the album ’All Australian Girl’ is inspired by her gran. The song was written by Tania and her sister Fiona, it came about when Tania created some music on the piano only to be approached by Fiona with some lyrics in search of music. Like a puzzle the two fitted together perfectly.
Tania’s new album ‘All Australian Girl’ inspired by her own life as an Australian country girl. A girl that left high school with no real plans but a love for horses and and telling it like it is. Tania says her new album has put her in a ‘happy place’. As well as music Tania also is involved in a TV caravan sow called ‘What’s Up, Down Under’.
Recently Tania has been garnering great success for her duet with James Blundell and their version of the Madonna hit ‘True Blue’. Understandably for these two country musicians, they initially thought they were doing a version of ‘True Blue’ by John Williamson!
‘All Australian Girl’ is out now.
